Powerwell constructs boreholes as engineered wells, not as holes of convenience. After the hydrogeological survey and WRA permit, our crew mobilises and drills toward the aquifer identified in the report.
Depending on geology we use rotary drilling with fluid or air circulation, percussion methods, or a combination. The crew watches cuttings and penetration so conditions are compared with survey predictions as the hole deepens.
Geological logging documents soil type, rock type, water strikes and formation changes. That vertical profile decides casing design, screen placement and final depth. It also becomes the permanent record for future maintenance.
Solid casing seals non-productive sections; slotted screen admits groundwater while keeping sediment out. In sandy formations, graded gravel packing protects the screen and the pump. Development then flushes the well until water runs consistently clear.

Process
- Permit and mobilisation — Drilling starts only with a valid WRA authorisation. The crew prepares the pad, access and plant.
- Controlled drilling — Rotary, percussion or combined methods are matched to geology. Cuttings and penetration rates are monitored in real time.
- Logging and casing — A geological log drives casing and screen placement so productive zones are protected and contamination paths are sealed.
- Gravel pack and development — Where formations require it, graded gravel and development produce a clean, stable well ready for test pumping.
FAQs
How deep will you drill?
Depth is set by the hydrogeological report and what is encountered while drilling — from under fifty metres to several hundred metres depending on region and aquifer. We do not sell a one-size depth.
What is borehole development?
Development removes drilling fluids and fine sediment so the well delivers clear water at its natural capacity. Skipping it is a common cause of cloudy water and early pump wear.
Do you drill without a WRA permit?
No. Drilling without a valid Water Resources Authority authorisation is illegal and can lead to fines or the borehole being capped. Powerwell prepares and submits the permit application using the hydrogeological report.
What casing materials do you use?
We install uPVC or steel casing and well screens as specified for the geology and water quality. Screen placement follows the geological log so openings sit in water-bearing zones.
